Children Programs & Services

All programs subject to change due to COVID-19

The Children's Services section provides a variety of children's materials, storytimes, and existing library events throughout the year to promote a lifelong love of reading and learning.  books and materials are available in English and Spanish to encourage family reading.

Homework Center

Does your child need help? Are you unable to help him? Stop by your local City of Commerce Public Library  and see one of our capable Homework Helpers.  Homework Center hours are:

Rosewood Library: Monday - Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 pm
Bandini Library: Monday-Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 pm,        
Sat 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Bristow Library: Monday-Thursday 3:00 to 7 pm, 
Saturday 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Veterans Library: Monday - Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 pm

Online Homework Help

Did you miss our local homework helper? Do you have a late night assignment?  Try our online homework help subscription with  Children can receive free homework help in Math, English, Science and Social studies over the Internet, seven days a week form 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m  Online homework help is also available in Spanish!  See our Electronic Resources page for more information and the link.

Early Family Center

Early Family center is at the Bristow Library which provides fun educational toys and a child friendly area for families with young children to play ,read and learn together. 

Family Read-In

In the Spring and Fall each year the library hold a Family Read-In event with storytelling, fun activities and refreshments for adults and children.

National Library Week

The library celebrates National Library Week each year in April with a special children’s program and community guest readers at library story times.

Read Across America/Dr. Seuss Celebration

Each year during the first week of March, the library celebrates Read Across America and the books of children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Children’s Holiday Program

The library hosts a special program for children on the first Saturday in December with a guest performer.

Día de los niños/Día de los libros

Celebrate children, books and reading with a special bilingual or cultural program at one of the library branches.

Summer Reading Program

Every summer, all children – including babies and toddlers – can register to read books and receive prizes during the summer.

In-N-Out Burger Reading Program

Each year in the fall, children ages 4 to 12 years who register and read five books can earn free hamburgers or cheeseburgers from In-N-Out Burger.
